Pioneering Women – Helen Newton Turner

Helen Newton Turner was an Australian statistician and a statistical genetist who made some amazing contributions to science starting in the 1930s and spanning over a 40 year career.

In a time that was challenging for women to advance in science, Helen went on to become an accomplished statistician, principle scientist and world-renowned leader of CSIRO’s program in sheep breeding research.

In this episode, Prof Louise Ryan talks to two people who knew Helen, Doug and Helen Shore. Doug was a statistician at CSIRO. Pamela started her career with CSIRO, but spent most of her career as a Lecturer at Macquarie University.
