How do we make sense of a world filled with data, uncertainty, and randomness? With data science, mathematics, and statistics – that’s how! The Random Sample takes you inside these sciences and introduces you to some of the people involved, explores the work they’re doing, and shows the impact it’s having.
The Random Sample podcast is a production of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for the Mathematical Analysis of Cellular Systems (MACSYS), showcasing the people, ideas, and impact of the mathematical and data sciences.
The podcast began in 2018, originally created by the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Mathematical and Statistical Frontiers (ACEMS) to spotlight researchers and research across the Centre and, more broadly, the mathematical sciences community. This legacy continues to shape the podcast today.
The podcast is also proud to partner with a range of supporting organisations: the Australian Data Science Network (ADSN), the Australian Mathematical Society (AustMS), the Statistical Society of Australia (SSA), the ARC Training Centre in Optimisation Technologies, Integrated Methodologies, and Applications (OPTIMA), and the MATRIX mathematical research institute.
Together, these groups aim to show – through this podcast – why the mathematical and data sciences are so vital to addressing the many challenges facing the world today. They also highlight why the knowledge and skills of these scientists are more important than ever, and why this is such an exciting field in which to study, research, and work.
We hope you enjoy exploring with us as we all uncover some of what’s going on all around us and didn’t realise!
